Ferry us across…!
Through the landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains runs the Elbe River. However there are only two possibilities to cross the river on bridges; in Pirna and in Bad Schandau. In all other towns and villages along the river, it has always been ferries to connect the districts on either side of the river. With the construction of the railway line along the northern bank of the Elbe, these now also allow the dwellers on the other side of the river to reach the railway stations. Similar to the S-Bahn stations, the ferries in the Elbe Valley between Pirna and Krippen are easily accessed by visitors in wheelchairs. Only the ferry in Schmilka and the cross-border ferry service Schöna – Hřensko are not accessible.
Below you will find an overview of the individual ferries and their accessibility. The data are valid for normal water levels, i.e. not for extreme low water or flood levels. In such cases, access can be severely restricted or impossible.
