Open-air exhibition ground Waldhusche

Actually, what is a “Waldhusche”? Or even a wood giant? What do you call deer browsing? How does natural regeneration work? What were game fences once built for? And what is a forest nursery?

Entrance Buchenparkhalle

You will find answers to your questions on the 66 acres of the Waldhusche exhibition and experience grounds in Hinterhermsdorf. Children and adults can experience practical lessons: Go on a discovery tour on forest history through the outdoor area, embark on an active educational journey through the woods, especially with your children! Lots of surprises and new information can be found at the interactive offers of the individual stations, but also the historical forest work and thought-provoking ideas of future forest use are presented and illustrated. Especially for children, the outdoor area offers excellent opportunities for “active forest exploration.”

Also located in the Waldhusche are two information points of the National Park: the Beizehaus and Blockscheune.

Four interconnected theme trails connect impressive facilities of the historic forestry with active games and stations for the pure enjoyment of nature. Of course, we have paid special thought to families with children.

The individual theme trails have different levels of difficulty, a part is wheelchair accessible. Among others you will find the

Forestry trail

Waldkundeweg-rechts-EIn the National Park the natural environment is left mostly to itself. In almost half of the area, the National Park Authority still interferes to make the forest more natural. How this is done is explained on the stations of this trail.
